T.P. Burkert came in this morning and paid his Record subscription for about the 42nd time. He has been a subscriber since the paper started in 1870.

Miss Edythe Martin was the winner of the $50 diamond ring given away by Sheldon’s Jewelry Store to the one guessing the nearest to the length of time a big candle, on exhibition in the store window during the holiday season, would burn. The candle burned 64 hours, 10 minutes, and 6 seconds. Miss Martin’s guess was 64 hours, 10 minutes, and 40 seconds. There were at least 1500 guesses.

Two prisoners escaped from the county jail Tuesday evening. It is evident that the jail is in no shape for keeping desperate men. These men had help from the outside, someone having passed a small crowbar in to them and with it they pried their way through the ceiling into the bathroom and escaped. This much at least ought to be done—things should be fixed so that it will not be so easy to pass things in to prisoners.

J.H. Hoch has bought from Isaac Good the lots on the west and north of the Stone arch bridge—the lots running back to the alley line, taking in the old stone building and east to the center of the creek.

About 30 young people were very pleasantly entertained at Niels Hansen’s last Saturday evening. Various games were played and refreshments were served.
