Pupils in city schools will give a May Fete on May 14. The exercises will be given on the grounds at the Valley School and will begin at 2 p.m. The exercises will open with a procession and chorus. Various flowers will be represented by pupils of the various grades. There also will be folk games and three May poles.

A cannon furnished by the federal government arrived this week, and members of the Grand Army of the Republic have decided to have it placed in the northwest corner of the courthouse grounds. County commissioners have agreed to bear the expense of a concrete foundation.

Nearly 2½ million eggs —that’s the number shipped from here last month by one firm, Jensen and Bros. They shipped 17 carloads in 27 working days. There are 30 dozen in a case, and 400 cases to a car — so figure it out for yourselves

A fire Sunday morning at Youngtown destroyed the store building there and the adjoining residence of Mr. Titus, who ran the store.

The high school track team won the 4th District meet Saturday at Emporia with a total of 43½ points. Marion won five events — 22-yard hurdles, high jump, discus throw, 120-yard hurdles, and relay.
