2 teens injured in crash

A two-vehicle accident 2 miles west of Lincolnville on Christmas Eve day sent two teenagers to the hospital, one with life threatening injuries.
Cadan Bernhardt, 16, of 2121 Alamo Rd., Lehigh, was traveling west on 290th Rd. at 12:30 p.m. in a 1993 Ford Ranger when he attempted to turn left unto Timber Rd. and was struck on the driver’s side by a westbound 1998 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck driven by Trenton Miller, 16, 2274 350th Rd., Lost Springs.
After losing a bumper, several tires, and other items, the Ranger came to a stop crosswise several hundred yards west of Timber Rd. on 290th. The Chevy went diagonally into the left ditch, also on 290th.
Emergency personnel rescued Bernhardt from his vehicle, which was registered to Sam Bernhardt of Marion. He was transported to St. Luke Hospital by Marion County Emergency Medical Services and then transferred to Wichita Medical Center.
Tasha Love, 14, of 506 Wichita St., Lincolnville, a passenger in the Bernhardt vehicle, was injured and transported by Marion County EMS to St. Luke Hospital.
Miller was not injured. The vehicle he was driving was registered to George Miller, of the same address.
Both vehicles were totaled in the wreck and were towed from the scene.
According to Cadan Bernhardt’s mother, Jennifer Williams of Herington, Cadan suffered a fractured pelvis and was bleeding internally when he was admitted to the intensive care unit at Wesley Medical Center. He was still in intensive care on Thursday but was improving.
Robin Pritz of rural Lost Springs, a friend of Tasha’s, said Friday that she was treated for a broken collarbone and a gash above one eye. She returned home the same day.
Williams said Friday that doctors told her Cadan will spend two or three more days in intensive care before being transferred to a regular room.
“I have had a lot of life-changing experiences in these last two years, but nothing tops almost losing a child,” Williams wrote on her Facebook page. “Cadan does have a long road to recovery, but step by step he will get there.”
