In an effort to make the US- 56/77/K-150 junction less dangerous, Kansas Department of Transportation has installed red blinkers on eastbound and westbound lanes, stopping traffic crossing the north/south US-77 lanes.

Marion County commissioners heard some bad news June 28 about the roof on the courthouse. The “new” 22-year-old roof is leaking. And, that’s not the entire story. The roof on the county shop building, on N. Coble St., also is leaking.

The municipal building basement was dry this week despite almost four inches of rain in five hours Tuesday morning. Heavy rain also brought harvest to a standstill and definitely will affect wheat quality.

Jim Bredemeier, a 1957 graduate of Marion High School, was injured Sunday at Wichita. A motorist being chased by police crashed his car into Bredemeier’s vehicle, causing extensive injuries to him. He had a crushed right leg, severely damaged knee, damaged left hand, and other injuries but is in stable condition after surgery Sunday.

“Beary Special Babies” born during the month of June at St. Luke Hospital include Christina Mae Philips, born June 2; Michael James Montgomery, June 11; Heather Shanea Fine, June 12; Matthew Allen Sprowls, June 14; and Bryan Dean Leith, June 21.

The Bob Smiths hosted their annual Fourth of July picnic Saturday evening at their home. Approximately 175 relatives and friends attended.
