Max Gough, who has served as Marion County EMS director since 1977, submitted his resignation Monday at the weekly meeting of Marion County commissioners. Gough said a number of things had happened recently and he felt it was time to move on. He hinted that he may seek a position in Wichita because his wife already works there.

Continuing the May Fete tradition in Marion, members of the Charlie Brown musical cast and other Marion High School students are pictured as they wind the May Pole. The event coincided with downtown merchant’s sidewalk sale on Saturday.

Lack of moisture causes parts of Marion County Lake to look like a mud hole instead of a place for fishing, boating and swimming. Recent rainfall helped little, for there was no runoff needed to fill ponds and lakes.

Ken Vinduska is the subject of this week’s “Personality Profile” by special feature writer Ruth Meyer. Vinduska, son of George and Amelia Vinduska of Pilsen, is vice president in charge of operations at Roundup Enterprises, Inc., Hillsboro.

Wes Just of Marion, who retired in 1976 after working for the Marion school district as a maintenance man for many years, is pictured as he repairs a wheel on a 10-speed bicycle.

Just recalls how he longed for a bicycle as a child. He says his love of bicycles has “snowballed” and it shows in his backyard at 310 S. Lincoln as it resembles a sea of bicycles, tricycles, and spare parts.
