Arthur L. Garver

Arthur L. Garver, 96, of Herington died Nov. 13, 2012, at Salina Regional Health Center. He was born Dec. 14, 1915, to Edward H. and Olive (Rains) Garver at Caldwell.

He moved to Herington in 1943 and was a Rock Island railroad conductor from 1943 to his retirement in 1976.

He married Thelma Stookey on April 24, 1937, in Bartlesville, Okla. She preceded him in death on Jan. 13, 1997. A son, Bryon Garver, and a brother, John Garver, also preceded him in death.

He is survived by one son, Dale Garver of Newton; one daughter, Sheila Kern-Schmidt of Newton; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was Monday at the First Christian Church in Herington, with Pastor Shawn Baird officiating. Burial was in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
