Card showers planned

Norman and Vivian Mueller, 65th anniversary

The children of Norman and Vivian Mueller — Jo Alexander of Marion, Barry Mueller of Healdsburg, Calif., and Norm Mueller of Denver Colo. — are organizing a card shower Tuesday in honor of their parents’ 65th wedding anniversary.

Norman and Vivian married Sept. 10, 1948 at First Baptist Church in Durham. Norman graduated from Tampa High School and served as a Marine in the Pacific during World War II. Vivian was a recent graduate of Durham High School.

The Muellers have lived in Canada for 60 years, where they raised their family and built the family business, Cardie Oil Inc.

They have eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren with an eighth on the way. Cards can be sent to 5 Park Ave. Hillsboro, KS 67063.

Merle and Emma Douglas,
60th anniversary

Merle and Emma (Colgin) Douglas married on Sept. 14, 1953, in Iola. Their children request a card shower for their 60th anniversary. Cards may be sent to 429 N. Roosevelt St., Marion, KS 66861.

In 1957, Emma’s brother, Bill Colgin, and Merle moved to Marion to work the oil fields. When Emma’s mom died of cancer in 1958, she and their three children (at the time) moved to Marion. They had two more children after the move.

Their children are Donna Ollek of El Dorado, Deb Budke of rural Strong City, Pam Chizek of Marion, Cathy Jantzen of rural Peabody, and Melinda Schroeder of Marion. They have eight granddaughters, seven grandsons, 16 great-grandsons, and nine great-granddaughters.

The family will have a celebration at the county lake.
