Chiropractor learned firsthand

News editor

Dr. Lane Smith opened his chiropractic office, Smith Chiropractic & Acupuncture, Nov. 5 in downtown Marion, but the path that led him to the office began when he was in high school.

Smith injured himself playing football and lifting weights when he was in high school.

“The chiropractor was where I got my relief,” he said.

With a desire to help other people and firsthand experience that chiropractic care helped him, Smith decided to pursue a career as a chiropractor.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in human biology before getting his doctorate from Cleveland Chiropractic College in 2007. He worked for a while in Wichita before joining a practice in Emporia in February 2010.

After he married Marion native Amber Moore in October, he decided to open his own office in Marion. He still works in Emporia two days a week, but his office is open 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, and by appointment Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

“It’s been good,” Smith said. “The community has welcomed me.”

The first thing most people think when they hear about chiropractic is spinal adjustment, Smith said. That is an important part of chiropractic, but it is far from the only thing he does, he said. Smith can also advise patients on diet, nutrition, and exercise.

Smith also performs acupuncture, which is separate from chiropractic care, but he thinks the two disciplines work best together.
