County commissioners voted Monday not to put gravel for a school bus route on Quail Creek Rd. between 250th and 260th Rds.
The road is within USD 408, but the proposed change was meant for the transportation of Centre students.
Roads had been improved for bus routes within school districts in the past, but not across districts.
“We’ve never seen this before,” Commissioner Randy Dallke said. “I’ve got to look at the precedent we’re going to set.”
Road and Bridge Superintendent Randy Crawford said the gravel alone would cost $16,000, not including construction and maintenance costs.
Economic Development Director Teresa Huffman gave updates for Leadership Marion County (LMC), BarnFest ’13, and a future magazine devoted solely to Marion County.
Huffman said she wants more involvement in the LMC program, which currently only has four members. Classes will not begin until February.
Commissioners approved salary increases to public safety dispatcher Megan Chizek for a one-year increase from $12.78 to $13.78 per hour, and treasurer office assistant Rhonda Curry for $2,669 monthly over six months.
The commission also met in two closed sessions, reviewing applications for county appraiser and emergency management director.
