Commission signs EMS agreement

Staff writer

Marion County Commission signed an agreement with Dickinson County for emergency medical services.

The agreement states that ambulances will be dispatched by the closest county based on the corresponding cell phone call.

The document was in effect Monday when Herington EMS was the first responder to a rollover accident off U.S. 77 near 330th in Marion County. The woman in the accident was transported to Herington Hospital with minor injuries before Kansas Highway Patrolman C.J. Hardaway could talk to her.

In August, there were two head on collisions on U.S. 77 near the Marion and Dickinson County border, the first of which resulted in a fatality.

The commission asked EMS Director Steve Smith to create similar contracts with Harvey and Butler counties for southern Marion County.
