Communities plan summer events

Marion County communities have a number of summer events planned. They include:

Aulne

  • Independence Day celebration Friday. Music program at 7 p.m., ice cream social at 8 p.m., and fireworks display at dark. Donations will be accepted for fireworks.

Burns

  • Ride to Remember motorcycle tour and memorial trailer show for fallen police officers at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 13.

Florence

  • Glow-In-The-Dark pool party fund raiser July 7.
  • Florence Public Library’s 100-year celebration July 31. The celebration will include a luau-themed block party with water toys, games, limbo, tiki torches, and hot

dogs. Donations will be accepted.

Goessel

  • Goessel’s community Independence Day celebration will be 6 p.m. July 3 at Goessel Church. The celebration will include a barbecue with hot dogs and hamburger, baked beans, chips, and homemade ice cream. Guests should bring their own chairs, but utensils and water will be provided.
  • Small Town Saturday Night workshop at the museum will be 6:30 p.m. July 23. Theme will be Christmas in July. Participants will make gift card holders, favors, gift tags, and holiday note pads. Cost is $20 for members

Hillsboro

  • Barbecue lunch noon to 1 p.m. Friday at Salem Home.
  • Glow Run 9 p.m. July 22 in conjunction with Marion County Fair. One mile and five k races. Cost is $25 for adults and $15 for kids aged 4 to 10. T-shirt and glow gear are included.
  • Downtown street dance Aug. 27.

Peabody

  • Peabody community vacation Bible school will be 9 to 11:15 a.m. July 11 through 15 at Peabody United Methodist Church. Kids preschool through completion of fifth grade may attend. For more information, contact Michele Gossen at (620) 381-4329.
  • Peabody Community Foundation pancake day from 7 to 10 a.m. Aug. 13. A free pancake race will be at 10 a.m. Back-to-school prizes will be awarded. Racers 14 and younger need a signed release from a parent or guardian. Donations for breakfast will benefit the foundation.
