County seniors socialize

Senior Citizens of Marion County named Ty Simons of Centre High School as their 2014 scholarship recipient at their monthly board of directors meeting April 25 at Tampa Senior Center.

Robert Carlton of Central Home Care went through a fall prevention checklist and shared with the 22 seniors present about ways to keep their homes and shoes from becoming tripping hazards.

The next meeting of the ONE Committee will be July 8 in Peabody and USDA commodities will arrive in the county on May 7.

Transportation committee chairman Tom Duggan spoke about the availability of the Department on Aging vans.

Virginia Dowining led the group in exercises and spoke about brushing teeth and dry mouth.

Barbara Smith reported she had filed 68 federal, 67 state, and 59 homestead tax returns this year for a total of 125 volunteer hours.

Carole Spohn of Tampa was voted to fill the vacant position in District 2.
