The rooftops of Peabody’s historic downtown are bright against the dark winter sky. The annual lighting took place Nov. 30, after the Christmas parade and Santa’s arrival in the community.
The family of Helen Stucky Hansen has requested a card shower to celebrate her 91st birthday on Dec. 6.
Lewis and Loretta Gray of Great Bend hosted a supper at Kingfisher’s Inn to celebrate the 54th wedding anniversary of Fordy and Marge Gray.

The Main Street Board of Directors, Larry Bull, Shreves Avery, Larry Larsen, Jim Cox, Muriel Wolfersperger, and Jean Smith have offered the Main Street Director’s position to Julie Eberhard.
Beth Gaines, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Gaines of south of Peabody, is a member of the Butler County Community College livestock judging team this year.
Jack and Betty Sebree spent most of the month of November in New Berlin, Wisconsin visiting the Bruce Sebree family and baby-sitting while Bruce and Marcia attended the Master Brewer’s Association annual meeting in Florida and took a short cruise.

The Women’s Christian Temperance Union will meet Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Ed Nicklaus.
Gary, Larry, and Harry Winter, who are stationed in San Diego, California, came home by jet last Thursday to spend Thanksgiving with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Winter.
Perhaps the most spectacular addition to the Peabody lighting plan was the addition of lighting on the water tower. A couple of years ago a start at decorating the tower was made when a “crown” of lights was arranged high on the catwalk around the base of the big tank. The event was so successful that this year lights have been strung along the supports of the tank, making a remarkable lighted beacon.

The History Club will meet Friday with Miss Reitha Hansen. Mrs. J.E. Johnson is leader of the “Judicial Department.”
Mr. and Mrs. John Slocombe were host and hostess at Thanksgiving dinner, the guests being Walter Slocombe, Ed Slocombe and family, and Mr. and Mrs. George Slocombe.
John Slocombe and his son Ed took six cars of cattle to Kansas City market last week, but returned in time to eat Thanksgiving dinner.

C.W. Bragunier’s little girls have been ill for several days — one with a severe attack of erysipelas and another with rash.
E.E. Westbrook has purchased some fine Merino sheep of C.F. Stone, since the election. The YMCA room has a new clock, the thoughtful and striking gift of a lady friend.
