The Peabody City Council voted 4 to 1 to approve the transfer of the city’s cable TV franchise agreement from Cox Communications to Allegiance Communications of Herington.
Grant Klingenberg of Peabody is a member of the group that was invited to participate in the Intercollegiate Men’s Choruses National Seminar at Harvard. Klingenberg is a member of the Kansas State University Glee Club.
Jarrod Gaines of Newton recently received his diploma and honorary title of “colonel” after completing course work at Missouri Auction School.

Orlene Scrivner visited relatives in Blackwell, Okla., last weekend.
Ann Jewett of Peabody was one of three Prairie View volunteer workers honored for giving more than 200 hours of volunteer time last year.

A major blaze consumed the old Berns elevator and adjoining buildings at the southeast corner of the city.
Pat Berns, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Berns, had the unique duty last Friday to give the response to the welcome at the formal opening of the Kansas Livestock Association convention at Wichita. It is traditionally given by a son of a past president. John Berns was a past president.
Ernest Westbrook, 69, a prominent Peabody man, passed away suddenly in Colliers County, Fla., on March 14. The Westbrooks had been spending the winter there.

Thamer Beeton was quite ill on Friday and Saturday with appendicitis, but has since recovered.

The Masons had a big time Monday evening.
Mrs. L.A. Buck entertained a few friends last Friday evening in honor of her friend, Mrs. Doolittle, who is here from Michigan.
T.J. Holler favored us with some good flavored apples that had been in the orchard all winter, partly covered with leaves and partly in the ground. A note with them conveys the striking information that the grasshoppers are beginning to hop. It surely is spring.
