Gladys Mann is a 95-year-old resident of St. Luke Living Center. She grew up in Peabody and was jumping center for her high school basketball team, which competed with other communities such as Durham, Walton, Burns, Cassoday, and Whitewater.
The remaining Bradford pears in downtown Peabody burst into bloom this week as spring arrived in Marion County.
Mike, Carol, and Hollee Reynolds and Margaret (Sally) Matz attended a cookout and birthday party for the 4th birthday of Evan Calhoun at the home of his parents, Mike and Heather and sister Emma, in Marion.

David Topham, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Topham, has been accepted for admission to Tabor College for the 1989-90 school year.
An extensive remodeling is underway at the old “McMillen building,” now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Gary Jones.
Dusty Gaines of Burns has been chosen as one of six high school students in the state to participate in the making of an hour-long program on agriculture and conservation. Dusty is a freshman at Peabody High School and son of Ron and Patti Gaines of Burns.

O.F. “Ossie” Herbert announced this week that he had filed for the Democratic nomination from the third district.
Mary Klingenberg of Peabody has been awarded one of the better scholarships available to Bethel College students. She plans to major in secretarial training.
Oscar Stauffer, now head of Stauffer publications, which publishes a number of newspapers, operative TV stations, and other enterprises in the central states, recently wrote of his days in Peabody in 1915 where he acquired and combined the Peabody Gazette and the Herald.

Unusually wide spread is the sorrow in Peabody over the death of Mrs. Willis Westbrook, which occurred about 8 o’clock Tuesday evening.
Milon, the nine-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nellans, was hit by a pitched ball at school last Thursday and has been seriously ill since, but is improving.
Mrs. E.D. Lauck and her grandson, John Daniel DeForest, were visitors in Aulne on Tuesday.
