Grandma LaVonne Ammeter is anxiously awaiting a new great-grandchild. She talked to Emily late Sunday evening, “Anytime,” she said.
Frankie and Phyllis Valens will perform at 5 p.m. Monday as a part of the Florence Labor Day festivities.
High School football is just around the corner and the field in Peabody is ready for another season. City workers, like Dennis Pickens, have been watering and mowing the field all summer.

Merl Brewer passed away Monday, Aug. 17, at St. Luke hospital in Marion.
The Peabody Township Carnegie Library is being nominated to the National Register of Historic Places for its historical association with the Carnegie Corporation Library Building Program and for its significance as a new building type.
Guests of the Ivan Miles’ for the past four days were Ivan’s nephews Mike Carpenter of Alaska, Bob Carpenter of California, and Gary Carpenter of Colorado.

Mrs. Clifford Spangler was buried Wednesday evening after services at Baker Funeral Home.
Mrs. Nelson H. Poe was elected the 1962-63 president of the National Old Lacers, the society of the collectors of old lace.
Mr. and Mrs. John Wolfersperger have sold their home at 611 N. Locust to Mr. and Mrs. Osmond Herbert who plan to take possession about Sept. 1. The Wolfersperger family will move to Roswell, N. M. since Mr. Wolfersperger is being transferred from Boeing at Wichita to Boeing at Roswell.

Miss Kate Tuttle returned Friday from Waupaca, Wis. where she spent the summer with the family of Orland Joliffe who will return next week.
Last Friday Miss Addie Beach had her right hand badly lacerated by the breaking of a glass jar on which she was attempting to place the top while canning fruit.
Vern Kuhn, trying to make a home run on the baseball diamond at Marion, collided with Carl Sheldon and fell down unconscious. The shock of just missing that homer may have been too much for him.
