Dog and cat owners in Peabody are reminded that the deadline to purchase 2014 pet tags is Jan. 31.
The charge to tag a spayed or neutered animal is $5. The cost goes up to $10 for pets that are not spayed or neutered.
Pet owners should bring proof of a current rabies vaccine when paying for the tag.
“As of Feb. 1, the price for the tag remains the same, but a $15 late fee will be added to the cost of each tag purchased by the owner,” City Clerk Stephanie Ax said.
After Feb. 28, the owner of any untagged cat or dog will be subject to being ticketed and fined by animal control for being in violation of the city’s pet tag ordinance.
