Drug drop-off is Saturday

Peabody Police Chief Bruce Burke reminds residents that his department will have an officer at the police department from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday to collect expired or no longer needed prescription drugs from Peabody residents.

The program is a joint effort of the Drug Enforcement Administration and Marion County Substance Abuse Coalition.

A police officer will be on duty at the station, 910 N. Olive St., to collect the drugs. Officers also will help with drug drops at Marion and Hillsboro police departments during the same hours.

Burke noted that many people are reluctant to dispose of drugs in a manner that will contaminate the environment. Delivering them to the police departments will assure that the DEA will dispose of them properly.

For more information, contact the police department at (620) 983-2133.
