Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
MAY 27
12:42 a.m. — A 58-year-old man who fell at a home in the 100 block of S. Cedar St. in Goessel was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders arrived within nine minutes and cared for the patient until the ambulance arrived 12 minutes later. A law enforcement officer also was dispatched. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 2:36 a.m.
10:22 a.m. — A 70-year-old woman suffering a severe headache in a vehicle in front of Tampa State Bank in Tampa opted to go by private vehicle rather than Tampa ambulance to Abilene Memorial Hospital.
1:53 p.m. — A 53-year-old woman vomiting at a home in the 100 block of E. 9th St. in Florence was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance.
2:42 p.m. — A 67-year-old woman with a fracture or dislocation was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 4:36 p.m.
4:48 p.m. — A 65-year-old man with trouble breathing after falling at a farmhouse near 180th and Quail Creek Rds. was taken to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, by Marion ambulance. The ambulance returned to Marion at 8:05 p.m.
6:41 p.m. — Goessel firefighters determined that a faulty detector caused a carbon monoxide alarm at a home in the 200 block of S. Church St. in Goessel.
6:44 p.m. — An 88-year-old woman who fell at a farmhouse near 110th and Wagon Wheel Rds. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. With both full-time ambulances on calls, Tampa ambulance was activated to stand by in Hillsboro until 7:45 p.m. in case of additional calls.
10:33 p.m. — A 59-year-old man who fell at duplexes on Victory Ln. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.
MAY 28
8:22 a.m. — A 67-year-old woman with a low blood-oxygen level at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 10:41 a.m. With Hillsboro ambulance on the call and Marion ambulance not fully staffed until 1:18 p.m., Tampa ambulance was activated to stand by in Hillsboro until 10:31 a.m. in case of additional calls.
8:55 a.m. — A worker in his 60s or 70s who may have suffered a stroke at Barkman Honey in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Tampa ambulance. An off-duty emergency medical technician in the vicinity also responded.
11:47 a.m. — A transfer from St. Luke to Wesley was delayed until 1:18 p.m., when Marion ambulance became fully staffed.
3:33 p.m. — Peabody firefighters plugged a leak caused when a natural gas meter was broken off its pipes in the 600 block of N. Maple St. in Peabody. Atmos Energy was called to repair the damage.
7:37 p.m. — An 86-year-old woman was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 10:32 p.m.
10:51 p.m. — A suicidal woman who reported overdosing on vitamins and wanting to harm others at a home in the 200 block of W. 6th St. in Florence was evaluated by Marion ambulance attendants. A sheriff’s deputy also was dispatched and took the woman to St. Luke, with the ambulance following behind.
11:23 p.m. — A 71-year-old woman with appendicitis had to wait until Marion ambulance arrived from Florence to be transferred from St. Luke to NMC Health. The ambulance left St. Luke at 11:57 p.m. and returned to Marion at 1:35 a.m.
THURSDAY
7:55 p.m. — A 53-year-old woman with swollen bursa was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health.
8:14 p.m. — A 70-year-old woman with chest pains had to wait until Marion ambulance returned from Newton at 9:50 p.m. to be transferred to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 12:09 a.m.
FRIDAY
12:24 p.m. — A diabetic 64-year-old man complaining of chest pain after his vehicle left the road and ended up in a ditch leading to the Cottonwood River near 190th and Limestone Rds. was helped to the roadway by Hillsboro firefighters and taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
1:48 p.m. — Both Hillsboro ambulance and Marion ambulance, sent as a first-response vehicle without full staffing, were dispatched to a home in the 800 block of Hudson St. in Marion for a medical alarm. Before they arrived, however, an alarm company called and said the alarm accidentally had been activated.
3:39 p.m. — An approximately 60-year-old man drifting in an out of consciousness with heartburn and trouble breathing at Birchwood Apartments in Hillsboro contacted a physician by phone and declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Marion ambulance and an off-duty emergency medical technician also responded, but the call to Marion ambulance was canceled.
4:08 p.m. — A lawnmower fire at a residence in the 800 block of E. C St. in Hillsboro was extinguished within three minutes — before most Hillsboro firefighters arrived.
9:18 p.m. — A 75-year-old man who fell earlier in the day at a residence in the 200 block of N. Buller St. in Goessel was taken to St. Francis by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 11:54 p.m. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.
SATURDAY
6:49 p.m. — After spending much of the day as a first-response unit without full staffing, Hillsboro ambulance was sufficiently staffed to transfer an ailing 86-year-old man from Salem Home in Hillsboro to HCH.
SUNDAY
2:13 p.m. — A 65-year-old man with chest pains at Bethesda Home in Goessel was transferred to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 4:11 p.m. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.
MONDAY
No dispatches.
