Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

APRIL 14

12:19 p.m. — A 71-year-old woman with respiratory failure was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Ascension Via Christi St. Teresa Hospital, Wichita.

2:08 p.m. — An 89-year-old woman experiencing nausea in the 400 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance.

7:13 p.m. — An 85-year-old woman with kidney failure was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

8:58 p.m. — A 62-year-old woman with knee pain at Homestead Senior Residences in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Hillsboro ambulance, filling in for Marion ambulance.

APRIL 15

2:51 p.m. — A 52-year-old woman with abdominal pain and trouble breathing at a home in the 600 block of N. Locust St. in Peabody was taken to NMC Health, Newton, by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded.

8:25 p.m. — An 89-year-old woman needing surgery was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.

9:31 p.m. — An 84-year-old woman with a locked jaw at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to NMC Health by a backup ambulance based in Hillsboro.

THURSDAY

9:06 a.m. — A 91–year-old man with stroke-like symptoms at a home in the 600 block of S. Freeborn St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance, opting instead to go by private vehicle.

12:29 p.m. — Goessel firefighters were dispatched for what was reported to be a grass fire near 27th Ave. and Cheyenne Rd. in McPherson County but turned out to be controlled burning.

2:18 p.m. — Peabody-Burns High School was evacuated after what was thought to be a natural gas odor led to students vomiting and complaining of headaches. Peabody firefighters, Hillsboro ambulance, a backup ambulance based in Hillsboro, and the county emergency manager were dispatched, but firefighters determined that the odor came not from a gas leak but from a prank involving an aerosol can. Students involved declined to be taken to a hospital.

5:09 p.m. — A 65-year-old woman feeling weak and bleeding vaginally at a home in the 500 block of N. Freeborn St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

10:43 p.m. — A 69-year-old woman who fell at a home in the 200 block of E. 2nd St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

FRIDAY

8:11 a.m. — People involved in a wreck at Kanza and 220th Rds. were checked by Hillsboro ambulance attendants but declined to be taken to a hospital.

11:01 a.m. — A 39-year-old man who suffered seizures at a worksite near 230th and Bluestem Rds. was treated with an opioid overdose drug and taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. A lone emergency medical technician aboard Tampa ambulance and an ambulance supervisor initially were dispatched to a different address, nine miles away, where a caller said the man was located even though the caller’s phone traced to the other address.

2:34 p.m. — A woman trying to get her daughter from a house near 150th and Diamond Rds. to an emergency room asked for Hillsboro ambulance attendants to help lift her. The daughter declined to be taken to a hospital by the ambulance.

4:11 p.m. — A 66-year-old woman with congestive heart failure at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken on an emergency basis to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance.

4:45 p.m. — A 74-year-old woman with high blood sugar who fell while mopping her floor at a house in Pilsen was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Lincolnville first responders also were paged but arrived after the ambulance.

SATURDAY

7:22 a.m. — A tree that fell on power lines and partially blocked traffic near Maple and Central Sts. in Peabody was cleared by Peabody firefighters. An Evergy crew also was called.

7:40 a.m. — A 36-year-old man receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation after suffering a seizure and stopping breathing at a home in the 200 block of N. Maple St. in Peabody was pronounced dead by Hillsboro ambulance attendants and an ambulance supervisor. Peabody firefighters arrived within 13 minutes and helped until the ambulance arrived nine minutes later. Dispatchers repeatedly reported the address incorrectly as being on E. Maple St. instead of N. Maple St.

8:34 a.m. — A suicidal patient at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:02 a.m. — Marion firefighters spent two hours supervising a controlled burn at an unreported location.

2:05 p.m. — An 81-year-old woman who suffered a seizure at a house in the 100 block of N. Freeborn St. was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

3:12 p.m. — Peabody firefighters spent 4½ hours supervising a controlled burn at 90th and Holly Rds.

SUNDAY

3:43 p.m. — A driver whose head hit his car’s windshield after the car hit a tree at 60th and Remington Rd. declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. Peabody firefighters provided initial care for a gash on his head.

6:47 p.m. — A 61-year-old woman who may have had a seizure and fallen at Homestead Senior Living in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

MONDAY

12:39 p.m. — A 51-year-old man injured when his pickup truck pulling a camper rolled into a ditch on US-50 between Turkey Creek and Union Rds. was taken to Wesley by Hillsboro ambulance with a possible serious injury. Marion ambulance attendants and an ambulance supervisor checked two others who, according to a Highway Patrol, complained of possible minor injuries and also were taken by an unspecified means to Wesley. Peabody firefighters also were dispatched. Tampa ambulance stood by at Canada until 1:25 p.m. in case of additional calls.
