Florence fire chief reports on 2014 runs

Mark Slater, Florence fire chief, reported Sunday on the activities of the Florence Fire Department in 2014 during the annual Pancake Breakfast.

The department reached its goal of purchasing a thermal imaging camera. A five-ton fire truck will soon be ready for action.

The fire department responded to 38 calls in 2014, which broke down as follows: six structural fires (three in Florence, three out of district); four vehicle fires; six vehicle accidents; 15 grass fires (seven in the fire district and eight out of district); one search and rescue using the thermal imaging camera; three gas spills; and three medical assists.
