Foundation distributes grants

Staff writer

Peabody Community Foundation fulfilled the wishes of ten charitable organizations Saturday at a PCF pancake feed and grant presentation.

“We had 18 applicants for grants this year,” Nightengale said. “As usual we had more applicants than we had money to give out, but the foundation board was able to help 10 groups with projects that will enhance the community and help local residents.”

Award recipients and amounts are: Marion County Circles, $500; Marion County FACT, $750; Marion County Resource Center, $750; Newton Children’s Choir, $500; Peabody Boy Scouts, $300; Peabody Fire and Rescue, $900; Peabody Senior Center, $500; Peabody Township Library, $750; USD 398 Leadership, $195; and USD 398 Preschool, $1,500.

PCF chairman Brad Nightengale told those in attendance the foundation maintains about $820,000 in funds. Since its inception in 2001, $165,000 has been given back to the Peabody community in the form of foundation grants.

Foundation board members are Nightengale, Marion Rowland, Ann Leppke, Linda Martinez, Jim Preheim, Sheryl Simmonds, Virginia Skinner, and Randy Windsor. Chuck Good is not a board member, but serves as PCF treasurer and handles donations at Peabody State Bank.

Information about the foundation is available from any board member.
