Gabriel and Claudia Higgins

Claudia Lucia Uldrick of Clinton, S.C., and former Marion resident Gabriel Spencer Higgins of Winston-Salem, N.C., were married June 11 in the May Dell of Salem Academy and College, Winston-Salem.

The bride’s brother, the Rev. John Hagen of Uldrick, of Rome, Ga., officiated.

John and Connie Uldrick of Clinton and former Marion residents Bill and Teresa Higgins of Burlington, N.C., are the couple’s parents.

Grandparents are the late Claude Uldricks, Ida King of Clinton and the late L.L. King, Geraldine Williams of Marion and the late Thomas B. Hett, the late LeRoy Higgins, and the late Shirley Call.

The bride was escorted by her father.

Christy Toy of Chicago, Ill., was maid of honor. Matron of honor was Teleia White of Rock Hill, S.C. Bridesmaids were Jennifer Uldrick of Rome, Betsy Higgins of Hampstead, N.C., Melissa Chandler of Clinton, and Wynne Overton of Winston-Salem.

Annalise Uldrick of Rome was flower girl.

William Keates of Thomasville, N.C., was best man. Groomsmen were Matthew Holub of Paola, Christopher Helmer and Adam Collette of Marion, Nicholas Higgins of Hampstead, Jacob Coleman of Winston-Salem, and Daniel Hinton Higgins, the groom’s son.

Charles Uldrick, nephew of the bride, was an usher and James Wyatt Higgins, nephew of the groom, was ring bearer.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a dinner and reception in Bryant Hall. The groom’s cousin, Travis Hett of Marion, played and sang the couple’s first dance song.

The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Finnegan’s Wake Pub in Winston-Salem.

Out-of-state guests included Lew and LaVonda Rothman of Morristown, N.J.; Bruce and Sandra Hett of McPherson; Tom and Shelley Stafford, Amanda Tippy, Jude and Lucy of Hays; Luke Rothman of Washington, D.C.; Lindsey Marshall and Jerod Lowe of Peabody; Wilma Williams, Rae Ann Starkey, and Mikayla Starkey of El Dorado; Bill and Debi Darrow and Jenni Brockman Short of Marion.

The couple honeymooned in St. Lucia and lives in Winston-Salem.

The bride graduated from Salem College and is employed as director of admissions and financial aid at Salem Academy.

Her husband is a 1994 graduate of Marion High School. He attended Fort Hays State University. He is employed as a sales associate for Express Print and Signs of Salina.
