Gerald Dean Kelsey

Gerald Kelsey, a lifelong resident of Marion, passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

Gerald was born June 21, 1943, to Donald and Viola (Janzen) Kelsey at the family home. His parents preceded him in death.

Gerald attended Marion schools, graduating with the Marion High School class of 1961. Following graduation he went to work for the City of Marion.

Gerald was united in marriage to Sharon Youk on June 30, 1963, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. Their union was blessed with three children, Kristine, Kerry, and Michael.

Through the years, Gerald worked for the Conoco station for Bud Pierce and Bill and Larry Burkholder, for Riddle Quarry and Hallett Quarry, for USD 408 as a bus driver, for Steffens and Hyde Park Farms Dairy as a retail and wholesale milk distributor, and his final position was as the Marion County Road and Bridge Superintendent. Gerald was the last door-to-door milk delivery man in Marion.

Gerald loved hunting, fishing, and spending his free time with his family and friends. Any types of sporting events were always an enjoyment, especially when his family was part of the game. He truly loved his family and was very proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.

Gerald is lovingly survived by his wife, Sharon; daughter, Kris Hardisty and her daughters, Lindsay and Karly, and grandson Koby; son, Kerry and Lori and their family, Jerry, Andrew, and Samantha; son, Michael and Jennifer and sons, Adam, Kyle, and Evan. He is also survived by his siblings Donna and Max Hayen, Marion “Bud” and Tressie Kelsey, Ronald and Linda Kelsey, Neva and Lyndon Hett, Doug and Mary Kelsey, Kathy and Mark Rathert, Lori and Kevin Fruechting, and Randy and Kodi Kelsey; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Shirley Carstens, Carolyn and Leon Schmidt, Margie and J.B. Geisler, Gaylen and Betty Youk, Vickie and Doug Huxman, Laurie and Tom Koslowsky, Terry Shaw, and Bruce Martens.

Gerald’s funeral was Sept. 28, 2012, at Marion Christian Church. Interment was in Marion Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church.
