Girls finish 1st, boys 2nd

The Marion girls’ track and field team captured first place out of 10 schools Thursday in Cottonwood Falls, while the boys’ team won a close second to the host team.

“The wind had an effect on the performances, but overall we had a lot of good things come out of this meet,” coach Grant Thierolf said.

Kenna Wesner won in the girls triple jump for the second year in a row at the Tim Griffin Relays.

Gabby Newell won in the 100 hurdles with teammate Taryn Kraus right behind her. Taryn would go on to win first place in the 300 hurdles.

Dylan Kraus won the 400 dash. Maria Carlson won in the 800. Luke Wessel won in the 800. Marion girls won in the 400 relay.

“We had a fun day at the Tim Griffin Relays,” Thierolf said.

Jesse Snyder placed second place in the boys triple jump. Madisyn Hulett placed second in the discus.

Jackson Howard placed second in the boys discus. Brian Nguyen placed second in javelin. Snyder was second in the 100 dash with his teammate Tripp Peterson right behind him for third. Wyatt Soyez placed second in the 200. And Marion boys took second in the 400 relay.

“We look forward to the challenge of the Halstead Relays this week knowing that the competition will be the best we have seen to this point in the season,” Thierolf said.

The Warriors will travel to Halstead Friday for their next event.
