Glenna Newkirk

Glenna Jean Boydston Newkirk, 64, passed away May 31, 2013, in her home in Marion.

A shared memorial service for Glenna and her mother, Julie A. Boydston, will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 24, at Eastmoor United Methodist Church in Marion. A memorial has been established for Eastmoor United Methodist Church and Harden Hospice Kansas.

Born Sept. 7, 1948, in Waterloo, Iowa, Glenna was the daughter of Glenn Boydston and Julie A. (Jean) Boydston.

She graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1966 and completed three years of college at Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia. She then held down many different jobs throughout the years including bookkeeping for the family businesses, paraprofessional, medical records, and the duties that come with being a minister’s wife.

On Oct. 5, 1969, Glenna married Jim A. Newkirk of Caldwell. The couple retired together at the Marion County Lake, Marion, after enjoying 43 years of marriage.

She was a member of Eastmoor United Methodist Church, where she was very involved in her Sunday school class and missions work. She also loved fishing for crappie, watching college basketball, and spending time with family and friends.

Glenna was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Julie.

She is survived by her spouse Jim; son Jeff Newkirk, his wife Jamie, and children Julian and Jaden of Columbia City, Ind.; daughter Tami Harbin, her husband Chris, and children Sammy, Leila, and Hannah of North Africa; and her brother Dr. Harry Boydston and family of Louisburg, Kan.

Glenna will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
