HOPE IN THE HEARTLAND:   Good and God

Gracepoint Church, Peabody

Worship is when we give praise to the Lord Jesus Christ. But there is no way to honor the majesty of Jesus without also acknowledging His divinity. To say “Jesus is good” without saying “Jesus is God” is blasphemy of the highest order.

The Jesus we see in John chapter 1 is God who became flesh. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (Verse 1). “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us…” (Verse 14a). He was “God with us” (see Matthew 1:21-23).

The difference between calling Jesus “good” and calling Him “God” is only one letter. But the eternal impact is enormous. Understanding the identity of Jesus is crucial to being able to enter into worship that is awe-inspired and spiritually edifying.

When you enter into your church, are you in awe of the majestic Lord Who saved your soul? Can you put off the things that easily distract — like the temperature in the building, the car in your parking space, the yada yada yada — and concentrate on the privilege of worship?

If so, then you’re ready for church!
