Harold Bauer

Harold Jerome Bauer, 85, died April 8, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born Jan. 7, 1929, at St. Rose Hospital in Great Bend, Kan., to Henry J. and Lydia Minnie (Nolte) Bauer.

He worked for 60 years at Bauer’s Grocery in Hudson, a business started by his father in the 1920s and continued on by him and his brother, Charles Dean Bauer.

He graduated from Hudson High School in 1947 and Hutchinson Community College. He served two years in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany.

He was a Hudson City Council member for 22 years and mayor for 34 years. He was a member of Trinity Community Church.

He married Darlene “Sally” Ann Searle on Sept. 2, 1956.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sally; a daughter, Brenda Rhodes of Marion; a son, Darrell; a brother, Dean Bauer of Hudson; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Chet; and a sister, Johanna.

Memorial services were Monday at Trinity Community Church in Hudson with Pastor George Redington presiding, and burial in Trinity Cemetery. The family received friends Sunday at Minnis Chapel, Stafford.

Memorial funds have been established with Trinity Community Church, Hudson Community Foundation, and Stafford District Hospital.
