Hillsboro movie night gets throwback sequel

Staff writer

Classic movie nights will return to Hillsboro for a second year on Sept. 12, and chamber of commerce liaison Cait Hall is happy to have the sequel.

Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce has settled on a showing of “Grease,” a sizable shift after showing Disney’s “Finding Dory” last year.

The film was consistent with the cruise theme established by this summer’s monthly cruises, Hall said.

“We wanted to keep it with a retro but still family friendly movie,” she said. “Grease fits with the theme that Midway Motors, a dealership, is helping us pull this off, and it fits in with our summer of cruising.”

The movie night again will be sponsored by Midway Motors, who also will supply the projector and screen, but the event will relocate to downtown Hillsboro.

Working with people who were involved last year, whether it was Midway Motors or the city visitor’s bureau, made the process easier for Hall.

“There has been quite a bit of communication back and forth about the event between the visitor’s bureau and the chamber,” said Hall, who is in her first year at the chamber.

Promotion has been mostly by word of mouth, but this his year’s event already is garnering interest from residents, she said.

“That’s been one of our main focuses this summer,” she said. “How can we help support our community and give some COVID-friendly options for individuals and families to do while still supporting our local businesses?”
