Historic Elgin Hotel listed for sale

News editor

One of Marion’s most revered landmarks, the Historic Elgin Hotel, is for sale. The property is listed with J.P. Weigand & Sons Realtors of Wichita.

Owners Jim and Nancy Cloutier bought the Elgin in 2006 when it was an apartment building. They restored it to its 1870s glory, converting the first and second floors into a bed and breakfast and the third floor into their family residence.

The description with the listing says the cost of the renovation was $1.9 million. It lists an asking price of $750,000 for the 15,204 square-foot building.

The Elgin was built in 1876 and operated as a hotel until the 1950s. In the 1970s, it was renovated into apartments, which remained until the building’s restoration.

The Cloutiers could not be reached for comment. The full listing can be found online at http://www.weigandcommerical.com.
