Ivan W. Wyatt

Ivan W. Wyatt, 83, of Clements died Feb. 25 at Holiday Resort in Emporia. He was born March 20, 1929, in Bazaar to Carl A. and Gladys J. Stout Wyatt.

He graduated from Clements High School in 1947. He married Martha Mushrush on July 2, 1950. They later divorced.

He was a lifelong resident of Chase County where he was a farmer and stockman. He helped organize Chase County Farmers Union in the late 1960s.

He worked for Farmers Union as Kansas state vice president from 1973 to 1981 and state president from 1981 until 2000.

He served on the Clements school board and drove a bus for USD 284. He was a member of McPherson Masonic Lodge No. 29, the Scottish Rite, and the Shrine.

He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Leitnaker of Ottawa and Colette Freeman of Effingham, Ill.; one brother, Dale Wyatt of Honolulu, Hawaii; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his ex-wife, and a sister, Eunice Ludwig.

A celebration of life service was Saturday at Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls with Bennie Holtsclaw officiating.

Burial was in Prairie Grove Cemetery west of Cottonwood Falls. A memorial fund has been established for Kansas Farmers Union.
