Lawrence Winkley

Retired farmer and stockman Lawrence W. Winkley, 93, died Sunday at Marion Assisted Living. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Eastmoor United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Marion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Zeiner Funeral Home.

He was born July 31, 1920, in rural Marion County to John W. and Maude (Waite) Winkley.

He graduated from Marion High School in 1939 and married Annie Jean Christensen on Sept. 28, 1941. They had three children.

His wife, sister Laura Just, and a grandson, preceded him in death.

Survivors are his children, Ruby McElfresh of Mission, Texas, William of Mission Viejo, California, and Jerry of Valley Center; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial funds have been established with Eastmoor United Methodist Church and Bibles for Mexico.
