First place in the Canton American Legion Riders Fifth Annual Irish Stew Cook-off on March 16 went to a group of Peabody American Legion Auxiliary members.
Sherry Bowlby, Nelda Darwin, Sheryl Fredrick, Barb Raner, and Myrna Wood represented the local auxiliary at the event, which was a fundraiser for the American Legion Legacy Fund. The American Legion Legacy Fund raises money for scholarships for the children of fallen soldiers.
“The judges chose our stew because they liked the flavor of the meat which had been marinated and cooked slowly,” auxiliary president Myrna Wood said.
The women received a $100 cash prize and donated half of it back to the American Legion Legacy Fund.
Also representing the Peabody Post were Todd Henderson and Mark Levering, Sons of the American Legion, who volunteered at the registration table.
