LETTERS TO THE EDITOR:   Letters to the Editor

As we have done for the past 15 years plus, our bushes on the corner of 3rd and Elm get trimmed twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. I realize that due to the excessive moisture we had this summer that they have grown a little more than in past years.

I don’t believe that the threatening letter we got from the city saying they will cut them down and charge us for it is necessary. Those of you who know where we live and the upkeep of our yard is sufficient testimony as to why this very impersonal letter has made me upset.

As I look around town (or in our own neighborhood) at all the trashy and unkempt empty houses in this town, I’m really disgusted with the way the city treats the homeowners that keep their yards nice.

The good thing about the bushes “obstructing visibility” at the corner of 3rd and Elm is that it’s actually making people stop at that stop sign, once they’re trimmed, cars will be going through it without looking or stopping like they always have done.

Yes, we will trim the bushes like we have always done. We don’t need a nasty letter ordering us to do it.
