Libraries offer summer reading

Libraries throughout the county will provide an escape from summer heat with a cool book to read. Participants can even earn prizes.
Burns
Burns Public Library’s summer reading program theme will be “All Together Now.”
The reading challenge, open to adults as well as children, will run June 1 through July 31.
Kids younger than 10 earn prizes. Kids 10 and older earn chances in a drawing for Pizza Rehea’s gift cards.
Thursday craft time for kids will be June 15 through July 27.
Three adult activity times for ages 12 and up are planned but dates are not yet set. The adult activity times will teach using rock polishers and a Cricut machine, and learning home canning.
Florence
The theme of Florence Public Library’s summer reading program will be “All Together Now.”
It will begin Thursday and run through July 31.
Age categories are birth to 9 years old, teens 10 to 18 years old, and adults ages 19 and older.
Participants will earn points toward prizes for each age category.
Goessel
Goessel Public Library’s summer reading program will run June 14 to July 12.
Open to all ages, its “All Together Now” program will include story walks and take-and-make bags.
Story time and activities for ages preschool through fifth grade will be Wednesdays from June 14 to July 12. The tentative schedule is friendship June 14, “Tie Dye Frenzy” June 21, “Bee Creative” June 28, “Kindness Rocks” July 5, and wrap-up July 12.
Hillsboro
Hillsboro Public Library’s summer reading program will kick off with a sign-up party from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in the library parking lot.
Open to all ages, this year’s theme is “All Together Now.”
The program will offer games, activities, and reading books for preschoolers and teens. Adults and toddler programs are activity sheets for prizes.
Teens and children’s programs will have activity sheets for prizes.
Program dates are June 22 and 29, and July 6 and 13 for children; June 21 and 28 and July 5 and 12 for teens. Toddler and adult programs are independent.
Teens and children’s programs cost $5. Toddlers are free and adult are $1.
Marion
“Bee Kind” will be the theme for this year’s summer reading program at Marion City Library.
The program is for children ages pre-school through eighth grade.
This year’s program will focus on bees and being kind.
The program will begin June 12 and run through July 14.
As children complete reading goals depending on their grade level or age, they will win a variety of prizes.
A program for those who have completed ninth grade or are older includes participants receiving a bingo card with 16 reading categories on it.
For each book row completed, the reader’s name is entered into a drawing for a $25 gift card.

Peabody
Peabody Township Library’s summer reading program will be “All Together Now.”
The program, to run Thursday through Aug. 10, focuses on family, community, and kindness. Anyone of any age may participate.
As program participants complete books and tasks, they will get library loot they can spend in a library store.
Participants also will get an entry for prizes provided by local businesses.
This summer, the library has partnered with Hub Youth Center to have older kids read to younger kids from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesdays.
