Michael Martinez graduated from basic combat training in the 3rd Platoon Crusaders of the Bravo Battery on Sept. 14 at Fort Sill, Okla. While there, he earned his marksman medal.

He began advanced individual training on Sept. 17 with Mike Company 5th Platoon at Fort Lee, Va. His career field is logistics.

Martinez has plans to attend basic air training at Fort Benning, Ga., where his late great-grandfather Lacy Holdeman also trained as a paratrooper.

Martinez is the son of Marcalyn and Keith Yutzy of Hesston and Paul and Linda Martinez of Peabody. Grandparents are Frances Martinez of Peabody and Sue Holdeman of Newton and Butch and Judy McAllister of Liberal. Great-grandparents are Sarah Saenz formerly of Peabody and Vera Holdeman of Newton.
