Members of Farmers Cooperative Association approved a merger deal Thursday with Mid-Kansas Cooperative. The merger will take effect June 1 and will increase MKC to 41 co-ops throughout 14 counties.
MKC has four locations in Marion County — Peabody, Florence, Goessel, and Burns.
Farmer’s is based in Manhattan, with locations in Alta Vista, Onaga, and Westemoreland. Its co-ops provide grain, feed, agronomy, and fuel for more than 2,000 customers.
Kerry Watson, director of communications for MKC, said customers at local co-ops will not see any changes from the merger.
“There are no plans to change any services we currently offer,” she said. “We will however do a feed and grain study in Farmer’s area to determine what products will best serve the needs of those producers.”
Hal Mayer, chairman of Farmer’s board of directors, said in a press release that the company has been looking to merge with another cooperative for two years.
