But Bronson Shipman’s job status is still terminated

No criminal charges will be filed against a former deputy arrested last month on suspicion of domestic battery, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be able to work in law enforcement again.
Bronson L. Shipman, 34, was arrested Nov. 21 after Marion police responded to a call reporting a domestic disturbance at his residence.
At the time, county attorney Joel Ensey referred the case to Morris County attorney Laura Allen, who said Tuesday she declined to file charges against Shipman.
Shipman was terminated as a deputy hours after his arrest, sheriff Rob Craft said at the time.
Whether Shipman will return to his job is an open question, about which the sheriff declined to speculate.
“Some discussion will possibly take place,” Craft said.
Craft said no discussion between himself and Shipman has been scheduled at this time.
Although criminal charges will not be filed, the incident will still be reviewed by the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training, the agency that certifies law enforcement officers.
Shipman’s certification could still be revoked.
Gary Steed, executive director of CPOST, said the agency will review the incident and Shipman’s arrest.
“We’ll still conduct a review because you don’t have to have a conviction,” Steed said.
