Nobody injured in Goessel fire

Staff writer

A house fire Monday evening in the 200 block of N. Buller St. in Goessel left no injuries, officials say.

Homeowners, according to appraisal records, Erin R. and Daniel G. Stephens at 202 N. Buller St. were not found in the home, Goessel fire chief Jeremy Voth said.

“They did an aggressive check until they could get verification that the family was not home,” he said.

The fire, which was dispatched around 7:12 p.m., was extinguished within an hour and a half by Goessel, Hillsboro, and Peabody firefighters. Goessel firefighters remained at the scene until around 10:33 p.m.

Heavy smoke damage, Voth said, has made the home unlivable for the time being.

Most affected areas were in the home’s kitchen, Voth said. Firefighters checked the basement and attic for “extension of fire or hazards,” he added.

Medics onboard a backup ambulance provided rehabilitation to at least one firefighter.

Voth said this was standard for anyone who enters a house fire.

“Even if there is no signs of injury or exertion,” he said. “Just as a precautionary, we check their blood pressure, give them a chance to cool off with how hot it has been.

“It’s just kind of a way to keep tabs on the health of the firefighters that have been working the hardest or have gone into the interior portion of the fire.”

A fire investigator was called to the scene and has yet to determine a cause.
