Nursing home has own celebration

Among the many events that have become a part of the July Fourth celebration in Peabody is an annual appreciation party by Peabody Care Center. The event, free to the public, is July 3 each year.
“Of course, it is a great deal smaller than what goes on the next evening,” administrator Melissa Parmley said. “But this is the sixth year for the facility to provide an Independence Day celebration, and the residents enjoy it.”
Parmley said it started as a way to provide a family-style get-together with entertainment and fireworks for residents, staff, and their families.
“Then it grew to include the many volunteers that spend time here and other friends of the facility. Now we just open it up to anyone in the community who would like to spend an evening with us celebrating this American holiday,” she said. “We hope to have a good turnout.”
Food service staff will prepare a barbecue-style picnic. Serving will start at 6:30 p.m. Hometown musician Aaron Waddell will provide entertainment from 7:45 until 9 p.m. Ron Miller will be in charge of fireworks at dusk.
