These offense reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

Burglary of firearms

Eight firearms, together valued at $3,700, were reported stolen between 9 and 9:30 p.m. April 10 from the kitchen of a residence in the 500 block of Barker St. in Florence.

Owner Leonard G. Ellis listed the firearms as a J.C. Higgins Mauser .270 Winchester, a Harrington and Richardson single-shot .410, an H&R .22 long rifle revolver, a Remington 870 Wingmaster 12-gauge shotgun, a Marlin 30-30 Win lever-action, a Springfield .22 long-rifle repeater, a semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun of unknown make, and a 20-gauge Mossberg pump-action shotgun.

Deputy Landis Goodman reported finding no sign of forced entry.

HILLSBORO

Theft by deception

Eileen K. Rader, 71, reported losing $1,750 between noon and 3 p.m. Thursday to a scam artist who persuaded her to purchase several gift cards and provide identification numbers for them via telephone.

Drunken driving, failure to report accident

Reginald V. Matz, 69, Hillsboro, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and failing to report an accident after he was discovered sleeping at 7:20 p.m. Thursday in the 100 block of N. Birch St. in a car matching the description of one involved in a hit-and-run accident earlier in the day.

According to police, Matz was arrested after he attempted to operate the vehicle. He was taken to county jail and released Saturday after posting a $5,000 bond.

A report about the accident has not yet been completed.

MARION

Marijuana and paraphernalia possession

Timothy J. McMahon, 35, Kansas City, Missouri, was arrested Sunday by Marion police after he was stopped for speeding at US-56 at Cedar St. and a drug dog indicated illicit drugs might be in his vehicle.

He was booked into county jail on suspicion of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia and released 18 hours later after posting $4,000 in bonds.
