Peabody-Burns track teams improving

Staff writer

At their third meet in eight days, the Peabody-Burns boys track athletes scored the most points of the season with 57 April 15 at Haven.

Coach Brian Lightner said the team was able to fill more events at the meet, but saw mixed results, where some set personal records and others struggled.

Sophomore Cody Partridge was the team’s sole first-place finisher, with a 19-foot jump in the long jump. In the shot put, freshman Andrew Wedel placed second, as did the 4x800-meter relay team.

Enrique Palazon placed third and set a personal record in the 1,600-meter run, and Kevin Baatrup placed third in the triple jump. The team’s 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams finished third as well.

The girls’ team has continued to figure out what events work best while improving, Lightner said.

Mackenzie Young led the team in points, placing third in the 1,600, fourth in the high jump, and sixth in the 800. Alyssa Brooks also scored, finishing third in the 400.
