Peabody residents should be thinking a few weeks ahead to prepare for the annual fall cleanup sponsored by the city and Stutzman Refuse Service.
This year cleanup is scheduled Oct. 12 through 17, with curbside pickup Oct. 16.
“As usual, we want to remind folks that this is not a mandatory service,” City Treasurer Stephanie Ax said. “The cleanup days are a benefit to the city’s residents. We hope everyone will be considerate of our employees and not abuse the cleanup days.”
Residents also are reminded that construction and demolition materials will not be picked up. Those items, which include lumber, fencing, Sheetrock, siding, and cement may be taken to Marion County Transfer Station at 320 W. Santa Fe St., Marion.
Yard waste also is on the list of items that won’t be picked up. Residents may dump limbs, clippings, and grass at the burn pit on South Olive Street, Peabody.
Roll-off dumpsters will be manned by Stutzman employees at the First and Olive Street intersection 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of that week and 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday.
Residents must show proof of residency with a driver’s license or paid water bill stub. Tires will be accepted but there will be a $3 charge per tire.
For curbside pickup Oct. 16, remember the three B’s — bag, box, or bundle refuse rather than throw it loose at curbs. Any refuse not secured and bound will not be picked up.
Metal items should be grouped in a separate area. A different truck picks up these items. Appliances should be clearly accessible to truck crews.
All appliances that use refrigerant must have a tag from the city office for disposal. All freezers and refrigerators must have their doors removed.
Hazardous waste will be accepted 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at First and Vine streets, by the former dog pound.
Anyone with questions should contact Ax at the city building, (620) 983-2174.
