“In addition to all the holiday activities at the Peabody Senior Center, we are still planning to host our regular special monthly events,” said Peabody Senior Center site manager, Ruth Lott. “The December birthday dinner will be Dec. 11 at 11:45. All seniors are invited to attend, whether they have a December birthday or not. We will celebrate with a delicious oven fried chicken dinner and all the trimmings.

“Just be sure to make a reservation in advance so Kim can fix enough food.”

Reservations for any meal at the center may be made by calling (620) 983-2226 the day before. There is an answering machine to take the message if no one is at the center.

A popular event every December is the annual Christmas Light Tour. The school will provide a bus to take seniors and residents of both Peabody Care Center and Westview Manor around to see all the Christmas lights. The bus leaves at 6 p.m. and the group hopes people will remember to turn on their lights at their homes and businesses for the tour.

Afterward everyone will return to the center for Christmas cookies, hot cocoa or coffee and Christmas music by Sonja Koslowsky.

The event is open to adults in the community and there is no charge.

The monthly board meeting will be held Dec. 17.

A covered dish lunch will be Dec. 18, followed by Vada Ann McPheeters entertaining the group on the piano.

Lott reminds everyone that frozen meals are available for the days that the center will be closed.

“All they need to do is call and let us know how many they need,” she said. “They will be delivered the week of Dec. 17 so everyone needs to place an order now before they get busy with the holidays and forget.”

The Christmas peppernuts are for sale at the center as well. Anyone unable to get to the center during hours of operation can also buy them at Peabody Sausage House. They are $8 a bag.

The center is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All seniors are welcome for lunch and the accompanying programs.
