Piano students compete

Area students participated April 20 in the District 6 Kansas Music Teachers Association Music Progressions at Bethel College in North Newton.

This annual test evaluates the progressive growth of all students, whether they are studying music as a hobby or hoping to become professional musicians. In addition to performing on the piano, each student is tested in areas of listening, keyboard theory, and written theory.

Students participating from this area were Megan Bartel, Jordan Creed, Faith Elliot, Abby Kliewer, Lydia Kliewer, Maggie Leaf, Paxton Leaf, Ryan Littlejohn, Anna Lubbers, Eva Noble, Hannah Ostrander, Hope Ostrander, Justine Ostrander, Cara Rue, Rebecca Rue, Laura Savage, Adam Schmidt, Martiya Schmidt, Veronica Stockton, Katelyn Sundquist, and Audrey Tozier.

Adjudicators were Shirley Wiebe of Wichita and Steve Gustafson of McPherson.

Newton Music Teachers Association and area piano teachers involved in this event were Sarah Carpenter, Newton; Karla Conner, Newton; Lillian Harms, Moundridge; Bret Janssen, McPherson; Carol Klingenberg, Peabody; Sheila Litke, Hillsboro; Beverly Richards, Hillsboro; and Debora Toews, Wichita.
