ACTIVITY REPORTS
Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.
HILLSBORO
May 19 — A wreck in Sonic Drive-In’s parking lot was investigated. Police helped Department of Corrections personnel conduct interviews at the police station.
May 20 — Lost property turned in by a resident was returned to its owner. Police monitored traffic in the 100 block of S. Main St. after receiving a report of speeders in the area and helped a resident with a property issue. A resident turned in expired medication.
May 21 — No problems were found in checking on a reportedly suspicious vehicle in the 200 block of E. Grand Ave. Police stood by during a civil matter in the 400 block of S. Main St. Police searched for but could not find a reportedly reckless driver. Drivers were ticketed for speeding in the 600 block of N. Adams St. and for having an unregistered trailer and transporting an open container of alcohol at 190th and Holly Rds. That driver also was warned about equipment violations.
Thursday — A suspected drunken driver passed a field sobriety test. Police escorted Hillsboro High School swimmers as they headed to state competition, met with a resident of the 200 block of N. Main St. about a family dispute, and checked city streetlights. A downed cable was repaired before police arrived.
Friday — Christopher L. Walker, 19, Hillsboro, was arrested on warrants charging him with two counts of aggravated indecent liberties involving fondling of a child and single counts of aggravated indecent solicitation of a child to perform a sex act and interference with law enforcement by filing a false report of a felony. Drivers were warned for speeding at K-15 and 220th Rd. and in the 200 block of S. Main St., for making a J-turn in the 100 block of S. Main St., and for having defective headlights at US-56 and Adams St. and in the 300 block of N. Ash St. Police helped a resident concerned about a vehicle parked on his property. A reportedly erratic driver on US-56 was not found.
Saturday — Police investigated reports of kids riding bicycles on the city’s splash pad. A driver was warned for not using headlights in the 700 block of E. 1st St. A report of a domestic dispute at Marion Reservoir was determined to be unfounded.
Sunday — Police met with a family in the 100 block of S. Main St. but found no evidence to support a report of a domestic disturbance there
MARION
May 19 — An alarm, presumably guarding material stored outside the city shops, was deemed a false alarm. Drivers were warned for making an illegal U-turn at Main and 2nd Sts. and for speeding on US-56 near Timber Rd.
May 20 — Police checked an open door in the 200 block of S. Freeborn St. A driver was warned for having a defective license plate light on US-56 near Cedar St.
May 21 — A dog loose in the 100 block of S. Roosevelt St. was returned to its owner. No problems were found in checking on disturbances in the 400 block of Arbor St. and at regional baseball playoffs at the Marion ball field. Two drivers were warned for speeding near Main and Walnut Sts. Other drivers were warned for running a stop sign and for speeding at Main and Elm Sts., for running a stop sign near Main and 3rd Sts., for speeding near Main and 1st Sts. and near 3rd and Welch Sts., and for not using headlights near Main and 5th Sts. To provide independent review, police investigated a wreck involving a sheriff’s deputy on K-150.
Thursday — To provide independent review, police investigated another wreck involving a sheriff’s deputy, this time on K-150. Drivers were warned for speeding near Main and 5th Sts., near Main and 4th Sts., near Main and 3rd Sts., and near Main and Santa Fe Sts.; for having an obscured license plate on US-56 near Cedar St.; and for having a defective tag light near Cedar and Denver Sts.
Friday — A loose dogs near Coble and Kellison Sts. bit an officer before being caught by the dog’s owner. A driver was warned for speeding and ticketed for having no liability insurance on US-56 near Cedar St. Other drivers were warned for failing to signal a turn near Cedar and Sherman Sts.; for running a stop sign near Main and 5th Sts.; for speeding near Main and 4th Sts., on US-56 near Timber Rd., and on US-56 near Industrial St.; for having a defective tag light near Main and 2nd Sts.; and for having a defective headlight on US-56 near Cedar St. Police dog Blue was called to a sheriff’s department traffic stop near US-77 and K-256 but detected no drugs.
Saturday — Police told city electric workers about a residence without power. Drivers were warned for speeding near Main and Elm Sts. and three times on US-56 near Timber Rd.; for going the wrong way on a one-way street near 2nd and Main St.; for having a defective headlight on US-56 near Industrial St.; and for having a defective tag light on US-56 near Cedar St. Police helped sheriff’s deputies investigate a disturbance at Maion Cove; no report has been released.
Sunday — Storm debris was removed from the 200 block of N. Cedar St. Police were unable to locate a resident they wanted to check on in the 500 block of S. Freeborn St., nor could they locate children reportedly left unattended in a vehicle parked at Dollar General. Drivers were warned for speeding near Main and 5th Sts., on US-56 near Cedar St., and twice near US-56 and Timber Rd.; for running a stop sign at Lawrence St. and Eisenhower Dr.; and for having a defective tag light near Main and Roosevelt Sts.
