Sales tax increase one-time anomaly

Staff writer

Sales tax numbers within the county rose from $763,936 in 2013 compared to $653,202 in 2012, but the increase may be more of an outlier than a trend.

In January 2013, the county received a one-time partial payment from the sales tax delivered for a pipeline built in 2010.

The payment made the county sales tax that month $165,986, compared to a $54,000 average. County Commissioner Dan Holub said the money would provide the county a cushion to pay for future losses.

“The extra money made more revenue than we expected,” Holub said. “So if we lose revenue somewhere, it’ll help fill those gaps.”
