Teen book club will read "The Hobbit"

The Peabody Township Library has established a book club for teens attending Peabody-Burns Junior/Senior High School. The club will meet from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday mornings beginning Oct. 12 in the Ann Potter room at the library. Refreshments are planned.

Jenna Burnett Spangler will be leading the group. Spangler is a 2005 graduate of Peabody-Burns High School and teaches English as a second language in the Wichita public school system.

The first book to be discussed will be “The Hobbit” by J.R.R. Tolkien. There is no cost to attend the sessions. For participants who pre-register, a copy of the book will be provided by Peabody Township Library and Peabody-Burns Recreation Commission. Participants with perfect attendance will be allowed to keep their books.

Registration cards are available at the library and should be returned there. The club is limited to students currently enrolled at Peabody-Burns Junior/Senior High School.

On Dec. 7, the group is scheduled to view the first movie based on the book in the Ann Potter room. The group will compare it to the book. Then, on Dec. 14, the participants who have had perfect attendance will be given a free pass to attend the premiere weekend of the second movie in Newton.

To get the books ordered and delivered on time, registration is due Sept. 11.
