HOPE IN THE HEARTLAND:   The defeat of Evil

Gracepoint Church, Peabody

Without Christmas, the reign of evil on a fallen planet would never end. And there would be no hope of ever escaping it. You and I would forever remain slaves to sin, and victims of the consequences it brings.

We’d be helpless and hopeless.

But the first coming of Christ potentially changed all that. I say “potentially” because you can tear up the lottery ticket if you want to. You don’t have to accept the hope, love, forgiveness, or eternal life that Jesus came to give.

And many people will choose to live in their evil, rather than be born-again. They will readily stay chained to the evil one who seeks only to steal, kill, and destroy. But the bone-chilling truth is that evil doesn’t keep to itself. It stalks, then it strikes.

And evil caused the slaughter of innocent children around Bethlehem because Herod thought he could kill the Christ child. But thank God, he could not.

Christmas means that God will not lose to evil. Christmas means that the Christ Who came as a baby the first time, will come as the Avenger the second time.
