Peabody City Clerk Stephanie Ax reminds pet owners that January is the month to renew pet tags for dogs and cats.
Certification of current vaccinations issued by a licensed veterinarian is required for each animal.
“The cost of a tag for a neutered male or spayed female dog or cat is $5,” Ax said. “The charge per tag goes up to $10 for each unneutered male or unsprayed female.”
The tags are due the first day of January each year and are good for one year. If the fee is not paid by Jan. 31, a penalty of $15 will be added to the cost of the tag.
“New residents or people acquiring a dog or cat during the year have 30 days to register the animal at the regular tag charge,” she said. “After the 30-day period, the $15 fine will be added.”
